Loose ends

Various links I accumulated last week.

Larry Summers speaks at a Code Pink event.

I am not sure what these people are selling, but I would buy it (via Geekologie).

¡ShamWow en Español! (Geekologie again). Kind of the opposite of the previous video.

Justin Lahart makes my day (again). “Fed Chairman Chauncey Gardiner” — brilliant.

“Larry Summers speaks at a Code Pink event.” … That’s cute. I like that.

Why pick on Summers, the morning briefer to the Pres. on the econ situation? Poor guy.

Treasury Undersecretary for Clinton until 1999, when he replaced Rubin as Treasury Secretary

Significant force in poo-pooing regulation of derivatives while in the Clinton administration.

Worked for secretive hedge fund, D.E. Shaw, after being thrown out of the Harvard presidency (usually a very-long term job) in 2006.

Promoted genocidal shock therapy against the Russians

Demanded further deregulation by the Japanese in 1997.

Pushed Korea to raise interest rates, and cut its budget in the 1998 crisis.

With Sir Alan Greenspan and Ken Lay, muscled California’s Gray Davis to reduce regulation of California utilities in 2000, aiding the Enron swindle and the bringing-in of the current genius to further loot and destroy California and its people.

Still a point man defending otc derivatives, as “an important component of the American capital markets and a powerful symbol of the kind of innovation and technology that has made the American financial system as strong as it is today.”

Krugman and Galbraith have both been attacking him and his BS strongly and effectively of late. Volker too. Volker has been sent to a small office to write a paper on revamping the tax codes… surely Summers had nothing to do with that.

Really, this despicable excuse for a human being–much less an economist–must go. Soon
